Copy-editing
A copy-editor acts as an intermediary between author and reader, making sure that the reader reads what the author has intended them to. The copy-editor has been described as the reader's advocate and the author's ambassador - a privileged role requiring a keen eye, sound judgement and tact. Copy-editing precedes proofreading in the usual process of publication: traditionally an author's text is copy-edited, typeset by a typesetter (to produce proofs), and then printed in its finished form. The copy-editing stage is the crucial problem solving stage; concerned with, among other things, clear communication, logical structure, and correct and consistent presentation. The SfEP gives a helpful breakdown of the role of the copy-editor. I can offer hard-copy or on-screen copy-editing for projects big and small: from websites to journal articles, from fiction to academic texts. Please see Fees for an idea of copy-editing charges - but do Contact me to agree a price for your particular project.
