Proofreading
Proofreading is akin to a quality check: the final stage of editing that ensures the production of perfectly polished text. In book production the proofreader ensures that no mistakes have been left behind by the copy-editor or introduced by the typesetter. Proofreading includes such checks as textual, typographical and design consistency; correct page numbers,
cross-references and running heads; accuracy in spelling and punctuation. In short, if copy-editing is concerned with the content of the raw material, proofreading is concerned with the presentation of the finished product. The SfEP gives a helpful breakdown of the role of the proofreader. I can offer hard-copy or on-screen proofreading for projects big and small: from websites to journal articles, from fiction to academic texts. Please see Fees for an idea of proofreading charges - but do Contact me to agree a price for your particular project.
